ORCHESTRAS

Alongside our choirs, Wilson's orchestras are the department's flagship ensembles. We aim to provide orchestral opportunities of a standard far beyond the reach of most school music departments.

The department's elite Senior Orchestra has tackled works of increasing ambition and grown in size so that it now plays repertoire of a standard of many county music groups. At least once a year, leading players from the orchestra form a smaller group to perform a chamber piece as the ‘Soloists from the Senior Orchestra’. Recent repertoire from the full orchestra includes:

Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre & Sheldon Danzas Cubanas

Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade (Movement III) and Bock/Harnick Symphonic Dances from Fiddler on the Roof,

Shostakovich Jazz Suite No. 2

Smetana's Die Moldau

Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals

Sibelius Finlandia

Beethoven's Egmont Overture

The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky

Karelia Suite by Sibelius

Borodin Polovtsian Dances

Mussorgsky's Night on a Bare Mountain

Conga del Fuego Nuevo by Arturo Marquez
