CHAMBER MUSIC AND SOLOISTS

Soloists and chamber music play an important part of musical life at Wilson’s. Solo performances are the mainstay of the Junior Musicians’ Evening, Pianists’ Evenings, Sixth Form Recital Evenings, and GCSE Musicians’ Evenings.

Repertoire has included Bach's third Brandenburg Concerto, two Haydn symphonies (No. 6, ‘Le Matin’, and No. 104 'London) and most recently Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. The Ensemble also provides accompaniment for some of the Senior Choir’s performances, including Faure’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria and movements from Handel’s Messiah. More recently, the Choir tackled movements from Mozart's challenging Requiem with aplomb, as well as Haydn's Nelson Mass, and then Handel's The King Shall Rejoice.

The Flute Choir (directed by Mr N Franks), the Double Reed Ensemble (directed by Ms H Dennis), the Clarinet Ensemble (directed by Mr P Sanders) and several other instrumental ensembles perform at every end-of-term concert, and provide opportunities for junior musicians to perform in smaller groups and senior players to tackle more advanced music.
