Year 9 Recital AfternoonS
Tuesday 3rd and 10th November
This week we saw a very welcome return of live performance in the music department. As the light of the day dissipated outside the Bowden Room, a small group of Year 9 GCSE musicians gave solo performances to an audience of their peers and staff.
In just half an hour, the Year 9 students took us on a wonderful musical tour from the intricate ornaments of the Baroque era to the show-stopping songs of the West End, from the Carnatic traditions of South India to the rolling hills of the Malvern countryside. The recital began with a confident rendition of two movements from Galliard’s Sonata V for the trombone by Michael, who executed with the running passages with aplomb! Shravan and Jamie brought different kinds of the jazz to Wilson’s with laid-back performances and Kai gave use a swinging performance of the title number from Frank Loesser’s musical Guys and Dolls. Akshat shared with us a captivating piece of his own composition, Mridangam Neraval, and Han brought the recital to a close with Elgar’s heart-wrenching and unforgettable cello concerto. Everyone shone and the audience were delighted. Next week, the rest of the Year 9 GCSE class will be performing also—and we can’t wait!
Thank you to Mr Lissimore for accompanying the boys and to the members of staff who so kindly supported them.
