Our Music Department pulled out all the stops to welcome final year university students from the prestigious Tonmeister Music Recording course to professionally record our fantastic music ensembles. We spent two days in multiple locations, including a trip to Croydon Minster, to record a Carol Service video and footage for the upcoming Winter Concert. The students from Surrey University were truly impressed by the music making they heard and they remarked that after an extraordinary year where they have had little opportunity to hear live music they had really enjoyed being part of something so very special. Our students had a taste of what it would be like to be professional musicians with multiple takes and great attention to detail, microphones and cables running everywhere.
Despite the challenges that this term has presented we have managed to keep music at the heart of the Wilson’s experience. Ensembles have adapted and choirs have split into year group bubbles. Our visiting excellent peripatetic teachers have been super flexible and enthusiastic. Like the rest of the staff they have coped with masks, sanitisers, freezing draughts, and distant conversations not to mention multiple room changes and zoom lessons. It has been an extraordinary time for our new Head of Music Ms Hayley Burton. She has worked tirelessly to keep excellent music provision going and as you can imagine it has been a herculean task. Everything has required ten times more planning than usual.
The music department would like to thank everyone in school for their continued support. We really couldn’t do it without you. We hope that you and your families will enjoy watching what we have recorded. Our recordings will also be shared with local nursing and care homes.
